Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGs) play a critical role in container terminal operations, contributing significantly to both operational costs and environmental impacts due to their high energy consumption. This study aims to analyze RTG energy consumption using real-time data recorded by Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) at the Island City Container Terminal (ICCT), Hakata Port. By examining high-frequency data, the study uncovers patterns and inefficiencies in RTG operations, providing insights into potential energy-saving strategies. Preliminary results show that a significant portion of the energy used in hoist and trolley movements can be regenerated, reducing the total energy consumption by over 35%. This paper contributes to the growing body of research on sustainable port operations by demonstrating how advanced data analytics can optimize energy use and promote greener terminal operations.
