Abstract
The induced paramagnetic shift parameters, S values, of simple aliphatic amines and alcohols, and the α-substituted propane and β-substituted ethanol series were measured at a mole ratio of Eu (DPM)3/ligand in CDCl3 of below 0.10. The S value is a measure of the equilibrium between the shift reagent and ligand, for which the steric and electronic effects are responsible, and is expressed by the equation, S=A. e-BΔE where ΔE=ΔEelect+ΔEsteric
