Six new triterpenoid saponins, named udosaponins A, B, C, D, E, and F, were isolated as methyl esters, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11, respectively, along with five kinown saponins as methyl esters, 1, 3, 4, 5 and 10, from the aerial parts of Aralia cordata THUNB. (Araliaceae). On the basis of 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and chemical evidence, these saponins were established to be oleanane-type saponins having a glucuronopyranosyl residue at the C-3 position of oleanolic acid and hederagenin.
