Infrared absorptions of benzoic acid, its esters and chloride, and their para-substituted derivatives in the region of 900∼650 cm-1 were examined. It was revealed that an extra band, similar in nature to the CH deformation vibration, was present in these compounds and considerations were made on the origin of the extra band. Clarification of this extra band enabled clarification of CH deformation band.
