Depolarization happens as polarized light illustrates on rough surface. Depolarization degree(DPD) relates with material, incidence angle and polarization, and surface condition. We use polarized laser and measure Ni samples of different roughness degrees(RNDs). Scattering lights are separated by a Rochon prism and detected by a CCD sensor. Evaluated DPDs are compared with RNDs tested by commercial methods. DPD can be used for RND evaluation as it has a monotonically increasing relationship with RND when incidence angle is fixed and roughness shape and structure are similar on a metal surface.
