In this paper, we discuss the "cardboard effect"which is a common form of distortion in stereoscopic images. Particularly, the relationship is studied between the "cardboard effect"and shooting conditions, such as the focal length of lenses or lighitng conditions. Subjective evaluation tests show that binocular disparity derived from camera separation and focal length of lenses has important effects on the "cardboard effect". Additionally, motion parallax has also serious effects while the effect caused by binocular disparity remains indecisive. On the other hand, other conditions such as lighting conditions or background conditions are also effective.
