When using a stereo system to measure tsunami, we need to extract sea waves. However, the sea surface is very wide, which makes the illumination ununiform. Thus, we cannot extract sea waves using traditional signal threshold method. This paper investigated an algorithm based on an improved block binarization algorithm. It is an automatic dynamic threshold acquisition algorithm. The thresholds of each block varied according to the variance in block. In addition, the background noise in the blocks without sea waves was removed by using the luminance difference obtained from the histogram, experiments show that it can eliminate a lot of noise.
