A non-contact measurement method of the human heartbeat using an array antenna and a software radio system is presented. This measurement utilizes that the impedance characteristics of antennas are sensitive to changes in the near field. A four-element array antenna is used for this system in order to expand the near field as the aperture area increases, enabling the distance between the antenna and the human body to be kept at a practical distance. As a result of the measurement, it was confirmed that the accurate measurement of heartbeat could be available.
