These two years we have experienced 11 patients of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada's syndrome in our clinic. The patients were examined neurotologically: tests of equilibrium, spontaneous and positional nystagmus, caloric test and so on.
Vestibular functions of the patients suffering from this disease were as follows:
1. In 10 of 11 patients we observed cochlear symptoms, such as tinnitus or sensorineural hearing impairment.
2. In general subjective vestibular symptoms were rare among them. It may be due to good central compensation or to its smaller lesion.
3. Objectively, in 8 patients we found some abnormalities of vestibular function in the course of the disease.
4. We observed direction-fixed positional nystagmus in 6 patients ; directional preponderance in 3 and hypernystagmus by Hallpike's caloric test in 4.
5. From the symptoms and the results of vestibular functional tests we came to the conclusion that the vestibular disfunction of the disease is more due to the disorder of otolithic organs than that of semicircular canals.
