Questionnaires were sent to 242 patients who underwent tonsillectomy from 1972 to 1978, and 129 patients (53.3%) responded. The results were as follows;
1. The improvement rate of subjective symptoms ranged from 77.5% to 89.9% with the mean 84.9%.
2. Several subjective symptoms were ameliorated within one year in the majority of patients.
3. Approximately half of the post-tonsillectomy patients still complain of nasal symptoms when they suffer from common colds.
4. Eighty-three patients were completely satisfied with their postoperative conditions.
5. The improvement rates of serous otitis media, nephritis, and asthma were quite satisfactory.
