This report examines the implementation and challenges of the 'Buna no Mori Zukuri Project' in Kumakogen Town, Ehime Prefecture, focusing on natural forest regeneration efforts. In recent years, abandoned artificial forests have become more prevalent due to the decline in local forestry and population, leading to severe forest degradation. In response to this, the project aims to restore natural forests and involves active participation from local residents. Regular meetings and activity reports are conducted to engage the community and ensure their understanding and cooperation. However, significant challenges such as differing levels of awareness among residents and a shortage of volunteers have been identified as obstacles to the project's progress. While the government and local stakeholders support the initiative, a lack of specific support and resources for sustainable forest management has also emerged as a critical issue. Furthermore, for the project to be sustainable in the long term, it is crucial to strengthen the active involvement of local residents and enhance collaboration with the government and civic organizations. This report outlines the current state of the project, the challenges encountered, and offers recommendations for future natural forest regeneration initiatives.
