The installation of portable fishway is one of the effective solutions to support the upstream migration of aquatic animals immediately below the downstream face of ogee crest weir. Also, it is important for non-engineers to set up the portable fishway quickly from the view point of volunteers' action. Recently, the authors proposed a portable fishway installed parallel to ogee crest weir. The proposed fishway consists of stones and wood plates. This study presents the improvement of the proposed fishway for the quick installation. It has been confirmed from the field observation that the installation of the improved fishway enabled the upstream migration of middle and small size of aquatic animals such as juvenile Ayu fish. Flow characteristics in the fishway have been presented. Also, flow velocities and their directions near the downstream end of the fishway have been shown.
