This lecture outlined the role of biobanks as core infrastructure for genomic medicine and the development of networks to enhance their utilization. Biobanks integrate high-quality samples with clinical data, enabling disease understanding and innovation in diagnostics and therapies. In Japan, AMED-supported Biobank Network Japan including NCBN provide large-scale, cross-institutional resources and access systems. Efforts focus on improving data integration, search platforms, and coordinated access. Key challenges include ethical review processes and regulatory alignment. ISO 20387 certification is advancing quality and trust. Biobanks are expected to underpin personalized and preventive medicine through strengthened governance and international collaboration.
