Aluminizing, siliconizing, boronizing, chromizing and carburizing were performed on gray cast iron substrates by using pack cementation processes, and their microstructure, hardness and tribological properties were investigated. Pack cementation coating films except for carburized specimen exhibited micro-Vickers hardness higher than non-coated gray cast iron substrate. The friction coefficients of aluminized, boronized and chromized specimens exhibited higher than that of the non-coated substrate, whereas the friction coefficient of carburized specimen exhibited smaller than that of the non-coated substrate. Moreover, the specific wear rates of aluminized and carburized specimens were higher than that of the non-coated substrate. On the other hand, wear rate of boronized specimen was much smaller than that of the non-coated substrate.
