The results of cycle durability test of a HDD media for the dynamic load/unload process are presented. A "front-tab type" ramp load head for 2.5 inch drive is used. Based on the head specifications, the vertical velocity of load/unload process is fixed at 35[mm/s]/26[mm/s] respectively. Load/unload processes are repeated 100,000 times. An AE sensor is used to measure the head/media impact during the cycle test. It is found that the different impact level is measured for each load/unload cycle. The impact level tends to rise slightly higher in the course of the cycle test. No distinct mechanical damage such as wear or scratch was observed on the tested media except one or two very small marks on some media.
