This research was aimed at exploring the role of design in the management of public facilities. Management of these facilities requires the balancing of two conflicting needs ; the need for uniformity, and the need for originality. However, the term 'public facilities' covers a wide range, and it was felt that the optimum balance of these factors may very according to the specific facilitiy under conideration. This paper explores the nature of this balance, using the post office and banks as a focus for the study. it compares the use of infomation posters facilities, and proposes an optimum design solution.
