抄録
Mei-Shi village is located in a mountaneous area that belongs to the Atayal tribe of native Taiwanese. This tribe has long been producing various living tools from natural materials. Further, the Atayal tribe is referred to as "the people of mountain" who harmoniously lived with natural environment and who consequently developed living tools within their culture. However, the traditional living tools reflects their regional taste, nature's blessing, human spirit, and has been replaced by electric and plastic products caused by changes in lifestyle. To preserve or maintain the cultural life of "the people of mountain" the concept of "symbiosis of man and nature" was reiewed through the analysis of living tools' advantages and disadvantages.
