The implementation rate of hepatitis screening in the Nara prefecture has been the lowest of all Japanese prefectures. We conducted questionnaire-based surveys of Nara Marathon visitors regarding the recognition and the awareness of hepatitis screening test. Only 25.4% of participants responded that they had done the hepatitis screening test. Only 30.8% of participants responded that they know that they can take a hepatitis screening test in their municipality. The rate of HBs antigen-positive cases was 1.5%, and the rate of HCV antibody-positive cases was 1.5%, which were both higher than the national average. It was suggested that hepatitis tests at event venues, which are not intended for screening, could pick up positive patients efficiently.
