A method of multiplex RT-PCR analysis for detecting Broad bean wilt virus 2, Clover yellow vein virus and Cucumber mosaic virus, which was reported by Kuroda et al.（2002），was modified to simultaneously detect Gentian mosaic virus with the three viruses. Total RNAs were extracted from gentian plants singly infected with each of the four viruses; double, triple and quadruple mixtures were also prepared. After cDNA was synthesized from each sample using four antisense primers（BBR, ClYR, CMR and GeMV2437），multiplex PCR with four primer set（s BBF/BBR, ClYF/ClYR, CMF/CMR and GeMV2222-/GeMV2437）was carried out. The appropriate fragment corresponding to each virus species was amplified. When this method was applied to various kinds of naturally infected gentian plants, the four viruses were properly detected.
