We surveyed the occurrence of bacterial blight of grapevine(BBG)caused by Xylophilus ampelinus in four vineyards in Akita prefecture. Field surveys showed that six Japanese table grape cultivars were infected with BBG. We also investigated the sensitivity of Japanese table grape cultivars against BBG using potted saplings. The lengths of necrotic cracks on petioles were significantly short on Kyoho compared with Neo Muscat, when several isolates of BBG pathogen were infected. When an isolate of BBG pathogen infected on the petioles of nine Japanese table grape cultivars, a significant difference on the lengths of necrotic cracks on petioles was found among used cultivars. Field surveys and sensitivity assays showed that interspecific hybrid cultivars were affected by BBG in addition to Vitis vinifera cultivars and that a significant difference on sensitivity against BBG was found in Japanese table grape cultivars.
