Intradermal tests were carried on using antigen HW-1 prepared from the adult worms of Ancylostoma caninum, in injection of 0.01 ml of the antigen in a dilution of 1 : 100, 000 and the reactions were read 15 minutes after the injection by measuring the mean diameter of the wheal and the erythema. Similar tests were conducted using physiologic saline as an control, and the following results were obtained.
Both wheal and erythema appeared by the injection of the antigen HW-1 When the mean diameter of the wheal elicited by the injection of the anitgen was over 9mm, the reaction was considered as positive, and when the mean diameter of the erythema elicited by the injection of the antigen was over 26mm, the reaction was considered as positive.
The wheal appeared in 86.7% and the erythema appeared in 81.3% of the hookworm carrier.
Then it is preferable to determine that the reaction is positive by the size of the wheal better, than that of the erythema.
The wheal, elicited by the injection of saline, did not exceed over 9.0mm in every case.
