Investigation was performed on the role of salt, especially magnesium and calcium salt, in the formation of sero-xelo-gel figure (Shichijo's reaction), and the following results were obtained.
1) When natrium salt of EDTA was added to type I serum, it was converted into type IX.
2) Magnesium solution like calcium solntion could turn type IX serum negative.
3) After addition of the same amounts of magnesium and calcium solutions, sero-xelo-gel figures were compared with each other, and it was found out that the former had rather stronger power to produce the figure.
4) In the formation of the figure, magnesium and calcium ions were colloidchemically neither antagonistic nor synergic.
5) Dilution turned type I serum positive. Also statistically, higher serum whole protein group gave higher positivity rate (types V ).
