Natsume Soseki's "Ten Nights of Dreams" is extremely elaborately written. There are many things that students should learn, such as structure and how to choose words.
Since many students at technical colleges do not take university entrance exams, they tend to be reluctant about Japanese language classes. However, because they have more opportunities to write specialized reports and papers than average high school students, they need to improve their writing skills. I then gave them a lesson using Ten Nights of Dreams, a work with excellent structure and accurate description. This paper is a report on a class aimed at developing the enjoyment of reading novels and the skills of academic writing.
