Response to the sex attractant and factor of attraction of male Synanthedon hector were investigated from the end of April to the end of October in 1998 and from the beginning of July to the beginning of October in 1999 at a low hill in Nagoya, Japan. Attracted males were hovering near the synthetic sex attractant lures, but never touched them. Males were attracted to the synthetic sex attractant lures not only before sunset, but also at daytime under low illuminance. This suggests that male attraction is stimulated by decrease of illuminance.
