The application of excimer laser to polyethylene-terephthalate fiber (PET) and aramid fiber is investigated, from a viewpoint of “ablation”. First, the ablation mechanism of these fibers were revealed, and then the adhesion performance of these fibers with rubber matrix were developed. The obtained knowledge will serve for the development of novel surface modification techniques for fibers of which the surface are relatively inert.
