This study investigates the potential for supporting knowledge creation in online work environments among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Japan’s Chugoku and Shikoku regions. Local SMEs often face task personalization and delays in information sharing, making organizational knowledge creation critical. A web-based survey using the author’s IEM model: Internalized Expression, Explicit Collaboration, and Multi-channel Mediation and IEM Scale was conducted. From 935 responses, 379 valid SME cases were analyzed after removing dummy responses. Factor and regression analyses showed that positive attitudes toward online work and active utilization promoted knowledge creation, while multi-channel integration remained limited. These findings suggest that local SMEs require phased tool adoption and context-specific support, offering empirical insights for designing practical strategies as a regional application of the author’s doctoral framework.
