Titanium mesh has excellent mechanical properties in terms of stiffness and elasticity. Furthermore, it is bone-compatible and easy to handle during surgery. An additional advantage is that the titanium mesh can be provided with calcium phosphate coatings. It is generally assumed that calcium phosphate coatings enhance the bone formation process. On the other hand, we have been studying on the hydrothermal-electrochemical apatite coating on titanium plate. In the present study, apatite was deposited on titanium mesh, #80 mesh and 120 μm in diameter of fiber, using this hydrothermal-electrochemical method. The results demonstrated that apatite needles were homogeneously oriented and deposited on the surface of the titanium mesh having more complicated shape and higher specific surface area in comparison to the titanium plate.
