Micro-rods have various applications in micro discharge machining (EDM) and micro electrochemical machining (ECM) used as tool electrode. In the previous research, the materials of stainless steel (SUS304) and tungsten were used as workpiece and tool electrode, respectively, and micro-rods were successfully fabricated with the electrostatic induction feeding ECM, which was developed by the authors to obtain ultra-short pulse voltage without using an expensive ultra-short pulse generation. However, the machining accuracy was seriously influenced by pitting corrosion. It not only decreased the limit of machinable length of micro-rod but also deteriorated the surface finish. Hence, the authors tried to investigate the generation of pitting corrosion and try to eliminate its influence during machining in this report. The experimental results show that the electrolyte of sodium nitrate effectively eliminated the generation of pitting corrosion compared with the sodium chloride, achieving in higher aspect ratio and better surface finish of micro-rod.
