The Pearl River Basin is one of China’s major river systems, and its ecosystem plays a key role in economic development and environmental protection. This paper reviews the latest progress in ecological research in the Pearl River Basin, covering topics such as water quality and water resource management, biodiversity conservation, wetland environmental restoration, and the impact of climate change on ecosystems. Despite some achievements in ecological protection, the basin still faces serious issues such as water pollution, land use changes, and declining ecosystem services, posing challenges to environmental security. Future research should focus on the advancement of ecological monitoring technologies, the optimization of restoration management strategies, and the enhancement of public participation. This paper aims to provide scientific support for environmental management and policy-making in the Pearl River Basin, promoting sustainable development in the region.
