The surface of new river levee is normally covered with a lawn (Zoysia japonica). That lawn is cured for three years after construction, with special care, such as pulling out the weeds by hand, lawn-mowing, and fertilization. Fore this care, the lawn is fully revitalized on the surface of levee and its functions, such as reduction of critical flood risk and weed control, can be fully demonstrated.
However, weed pulling method is enormously expensive and has faced a manpower shortage that also has the problem of aging.
As a way to save costs and alleviate labor shortage, we propose to apply “Plant Growth Regulator (including herbicide)”, which are confirmed to be safe and effective under a recent revision of the Agricultural Chemicals Control Act, for vegetation management of new river levee
