Based on the yearly catches of spring herring and several kinds of migratory fishes of the warm current-system in Hokkaido, in the year from 1887 to 1946, the factors which might be related to the fluctuation of herring catches were examined statistically.
It was suggested that the reciprocal variation of herring catches at dfferent places in the neighbourhood of Hokkaido seemed to be related to the hydrogra phical condition of Tusima-Current which looked like to fluctuate periodically. To say the least, the variation of the geographical distributions of spring herring in Hokkaido, which showed from early part of “Showa” onwards, might be accounted for by the hydrographical factors.
