The immunostimulating effects of Freund's complete (FCA) adjuvants were investigated in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. The resistance to vibriosis obtained by rainbow trout injected with FCA was found to be up to 100 times (LD50 value) that of saline-injected trout. The che-miluminescent (CL), the phagocytic and natural killer (NK) cell activities in FCA-treated fish were more active than in saline-treated fish. Thus, the increased resistance to disease in the FCA in-jected fish is caused by the activations of non-specific immune systems.
