In cats ice-water was introduced into the stomach through the stomach fistula, previously prepared, in an amount so as to produce a heat debt of about 2.1-3.6 thousand large calories per kilo of body weight. It induced in the cats regardless of sexes, small and tran-sitory falls in the body temperature, such as 1-2 degree, in two hours.
Emotional manifestations were somewhat distinct in the male cats, contrary to the female, and the blood sugar content increased de-finitely in the male only; in the female ambiguous. Therefore, we may be justified in taking the small and transcient increase of blood sugar immediately following the application of cold water into stom-ach, to be of an emotional origin, and not due to the lowering of the body temperature.
Thus, even in cats, a small degree of body temperature fall such as 1-2 degrees, does not act in itself to accelerate the blood sugar concentration.
