A procedure for the determination of thiamine in the presence of heavy metal ions was investigated, since the heavy metal ions, especially cobalt ion interfere with cyanogen bromide-alkali reaction or potassium ferricyanide-alkali reaction. It was confirmed that the determination was fairly made by means of cyanogen bromide-alkali reaction by the addition of 20-30mg of cysteine hydrochloride to the solution, prior to the oxidation.
