In thiamine deficient group neuroparalytic symptoms appeared in the fourth week, resulting in abasia in the fifth week. Ataxia was also observed in this period. Oral administration could be cured by for several days. A marked paralysis was observed at the end stage. Neuroparalytic symptoms were not observed in the control underfed group. Electromyographical observations on the thiamine-deficient group showed the appearance of fibrillation and fasciculation in the fourth to fifth week, but not in the control group. Histological examination of the sciatic nerve revealed slight degeneration of axis cilinder on the 27th and 30th day, while no alternation was found in the control group. Histological examination of the gastrocuremic muscle revealed increase of fat and degeneration in the thiamine-deficient group, but no change except disappearance of fat and glycogen in the control group.
