Phenol compounds, especially p-cresol, had a stabilizing effect on FAD. The effect is due to the combination between the phenolic hydroxide group and FAD. Pyridoxine, having a phenolic hydroxyl group in the molecule, exerted a similar, not so much remarkable effect as that of p-cresol on FAD. However, the decomposition of FAD was almost completely prevented by the addition of pyridoxine and benzylalcohol.
