Pharmacological studies were made on O-benzoylthiamine disulfide (BTDS). BTDS produced moderate falls of blood pressure and scarecely influenced on respiration in rabbits and depressed the myocardial activity of isolated hearts of frogs. BTDS had almost no effects on the circulation of the perfused rabbits auricular vessels. Actions on the isolated intestines were decreased in the peristalisis and fall of the tension and no marked actions were observed on the movemement of uteri in rabbits. Acute toxicity in mice was much lower than that of thiamine hydrochloride, and examination of chronic toxicity did not reveal special hematologic and pathological changes. The experimental results mentioned above demonstrate that the pharmacological actions of BTDS are no less than those of thiamine hydrochloride and in toxicity BTDS has an advantage over thiamine hydrochloride.
