The growth of Sacch. carlsbergensis and its thiamine-adapted strains B_1-1 and B_1-100 was inhibited by the presence of such antithiamine compounds as pyrithiamine, oxythiamine and imidazolothiamine. The inhibition of Sacch. carlsbergensis was partly and that of strain B_1-1 or B_1-100 was completely reversed by thiamine, but not reversed by any other vitamins including vitamin B_6. The inhibition indices of pyrithiamine and imidazolothiamine were 63〜69, 10〜68 on Sacch. carlsbergensis arid 193〜228, 32〜119 on strain B_1-1, respectively. At the absence of thiamine, oxythiamine showed inhibitory effect with the same concentration as pyrithiamine, but at the presence of thiamine, did so weak and irregular inhibitory effect that its inhibition index was impossible to be calculated. Pyrithiamine, imidazolothiamine and oxythiamine showed inhibitory effect on the growth of Sacch. cerevisiae Hansen and baker's yeast (Oriental) as well as Sacch. carlsbergensis and the inhibition was reversed by the addition of thiamine too.
