Thin-layer gel filtration of solubilized vitamin A palmitate solution formed with polysorbate 80 has been studied. Thin-layer gel filtration was performed on 0.8 mm thick layer of Sephadex G-200 using water as developing solvent. After development, two spots were detected on a paper print of the gel layer by spraying with Dragendorff reagent. The upper spot was polysorbate 80 micelle containing vitamin A palmitate and the lower seemed to be minor impurities in polysorbate 80. R, value of the upper spot increased with the increasing of the ratio of vitamin A palmitate to polysorbate 80 in solubilized solution. Different behavior of polysorbate 80 micelle containing vitamin A palmitate was not observed by using 0.2 or 2% polysorbate 80 solution as the developing solvent.
