Four kinds of pigment (A, B, C, D) were isolated from the reaction mixture of the Voges-Proskauer reaction of diacetyl-α-naphthol-guanidino compounds, such as morpholino-amidine or 1, 1-pentamethyleneguanidine. Among them, structures of pigment C were elucidated as C-M and C-P by nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, and mass spectroscopies. The orange pigments obtained by the O'Meara's method and also by Eggleton's method, were both identical. with pigment C.
