Digi-log is a term to describe user interfaces that utilize both digital and analogue modalities in conjunction. These two
elements complement each other to provide the most optimal user experience. The most representative case is smartphones
with home buttons. However, many manufacturers have removed home buttons from smartphones. This research analyses
the impact of the presence, or absence, of analog interfaces in the context of mobile devices. An experime nt was conducted
to investigate the usability and user psychological satisfaction from using home buttons, where the deployed prototypes
were classified in terms of triggers and feedback type. The generational difference amongst users and accumulated
experi ence of using digital digital-only smartphones was also consi considered. Results confirm that analog interfaces have a positive
effect on users’ usability and psychology. This is because Experiment Case A, a type of analog home button, was the most
positive in Adequacy, Efficiency, Consistent, Comfort and Satisfaction, w which are user experience evaluation factors.
Furthermore, it was confirmed that the difference between Ca se A and other cases was significant. (p<0.05) In generation
differences, experience of using the digital digital-only mobile phones in the younger generation did not affect usability. This is
because, in the result of the 2 2-wayway-ANOVA about usability measurement, Gen X and Z were p>0.05 on the Adequacy,
Effici ency, and Consistent, which are usability factors in the user experience. However However, it did have a statist statistically
significant effect on their psychology. In the older age group, experience with digital digital-only smartphone affected both
usability and psychology. Th is is because all generation had a significant impact on user psychology in the results of
3-wayway-ANOVAANOVA. (p< In additio addition, in the result of 2-wayway-ANOVA relevant to usability factors , Gen X was p<0.05 0.05. This
research concludes that analog interfaces p ositively affect user experience, and therefore needs to be considered if device
manufactures are to accomm accommodate the needs of multiple generations through a more inclusive design.
