Purpose: We perform laparoscopic-assisted percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (LA-PEG) in children and for patients in whom conventional PEG is difficult. In this study, we report the safety and efficacy of LA-PEG.

Material and Methods: LA-PEG was performed in 32 patients from 2005 to 2022. The indications, surgical procedures and complications of LA-PEG in these patients were reviewed retrospectively.

Results: The first 12 patients in the series underwent LA-PEG performed using multi-ports, while umbilical single incisional surgery was used in the 20 more recently treated patients. There was no significant difference in average operative time between the single-port (125.4 ± 28.4 min) and multi-port (118.2 ± 38.1 min) groups. There were no complications during surgery and no case required repeated gastrostomy.

Conclusions: LA-PEG through a single port or multi-ports made it possible to perform gastrostomy safely and to restart tube feeding soon after the procedure.
