SIS-TEM III is a computer-based educational system developed by the Curriculum Research and Development Center, Faculty of Education, Gifu University. It is designed for management of teaching/learning items, administration of student data, and for all-inclusive utilization of computers in school education. Specific sub-purposes include : 1) Management of data on both learning content and learning responses. 2) Retrieval of instructional items in accordance with the learning situation. 3) Retrieval of instructional items conditioned upon the results of content analysis of learners' response data. 4) Retrieval conditions upon both the relationship of each item with learners' responses and the contextual structure of item groups. 5) The taking of response structures into consideration when sequencing instructional items. 6) Automatic editing of sequenced CAI programs. It has become possible, thanks to the development of this system, to design teaching/learning programs suitable for students of many levels of ability, the results of which can be applied to large numbers of students.
