We have developed MPEG-2 AAC 6.1ch Real-time decoder for BS Digital TV using our conventional consumer audio decoder LSI. We had two problems acording to the Huffman code decoding, the Inverse Quantization and the Scale Factor processing to implement it. In this paper, these problems and the solutions for them are described.

Digital photography prints are the color hardcopy output for the new photography system. The image quality of those prints depends mainly on the definition of imagers in the input digital cameras, the data level in the image signal system and the tone rendition ability of output color printer system. This paper discusses the relation of imager definition and image quality of output prints and the evaluation of rendition of thermal dye tranfer media for prominent digital color prints.

It is proposed that new technology should be developed from the viewpoint of TV-viewers in forthcoming digital broadcasting. Digital broadcasting enables to present new functions as well as multi-channel HDTV programs, while usability is apt to be drastically decreased. Various trail to settle the contradiction are shown in this paper.

A home server is a home storage system that records viewer's favorite programs automatically for subsequent viewing at any time. We propose an HSMS(Hierarchical Storage Management System) as the architecture to make the home server interactive and give it a library function. The prototype home server can play back a recorded HDTV program(MPEG-2 MP@HL) while recording another HDTV program on a single hard disk. The HSMS also enables it to record five hours of HDTV programs and play them back without having to wait.

We have proposed a new generation Video Server for broadcasting station. The server have three new concepts; "media free", "video format free", "compression bit rate free". The 1^<st> free means that both hard disks and IC memories are available as storage media of the server. The 2^<nd> free means that the server is utilized as a HDTV Video Server as well as a SDTV Video Server. The 3^<rd> free means that this server can select a different compression bit rate for each stored picture.

We have developed a video archive system that stocks and manages a great many of DVCPRO tapes. As retrieval result is indicated on multi-screen of thumbnail movie, the user who want some tapes can directly confirm the result tape's moving image at a time. In this paper, we describe the video server technology which makes this retrieving possible.
