Recently, screen size of displays is becoming larger and larger. Also, consumers want less expensive products. Projection displays are preferable because you can achieve large screen displays without talking high cost. However, they have a problem that moire patterns are caused by correcting optical distortion. In this paper, a way to reduce both moire patterns and optical distortion is discussed.

As the so-called motion-sharpening known in the field of psychology, a new phenomenon named "TFA (Temporaly-Free Aliasing) motion" was discovered, which is distorted with aliasing in still pictures, but is clear when moving. The resolution is twice higher than considered by the sampling theorem, which may lead to super-resolution. This is analyzed in the spatio-temporal frequency domain, and examined by watching computer-simulated pictures.

Satelite broadcasting in the 21-GHz band is expected to transmit large-capacity signals such as Super Hi-Vision using wide band transmission scheme. However, this band suffers from large rain attenuation. We have been studying rain fading mitigation technique using phased array antenna. In this system, the radiation pattern changes dynamically in accordance with the movement of the heavy rainfall area. In this paper, we calculate the relation between the power flux desities and the annual service availability in each city because the rain attenuaion has regional characteristics. And we propose an example system configuration of the 21-GHz band broadcasting satellite.

Fractal dimension is used for texture analysis as it correlates to a high degree with the human perception of surface roughness. It has been applied to quantifying the structures of a wide range of objects in biology and medicine. In this paper, we attempt to analyze skin texture images using fractal dimension, and discuss its application to evaluating skin state. This technique could be helpful in extracting human features and could be useful in detecting a wide range of skin diseases. This paper presents a method to calculate the fractal dimension of skin using a camera with lenses of different magnification. We take a series of photographs of the skin using lenses of different magnification as the magnification factor of a fractal set (skin), and count the number of objects (skin cells) in each photograph as the number of self-similar pieces of fractal set.

As a fundamental consideration for constructing the objective assessment method in the coded stereoscopic video, we examine the difference of the perception degree of the quality degradation in the stereoscopic video and its two dimensional (2D) video. At first, using subjective DSIS method, we obtain the mean opinion score (MOS-3D) of coded stereoscopic video, its score (MOS-L) of coded left-video, and its score (MOS-R) of coded right-video. Next, after we obtain an average value of MOS-L and MOS-R, and the difference between MOS-3D and its average, we define its difference as the improvement of subjective quality between stereoscopic video and two dimensional video. As a result of subjective assessment test, MOS-3D is always about 0.5 point higher than MOS of coded two dimensional video.
