The digital data on contour lines in geographic information system and digial mapping require a large storage capacity and occupy a considerable part of the computer's storage memory.
Therefore, compressing digital data on contour lines is considered to be a very important factor.
The author conducted an experimental investigation with the aim of compression digital data along contour lines by using the divisional quantum method. This method is employed to represent the directivity by encoding all data points obtained from coordinate data along contour lines.
In this study, the author succeeded in clarifying the relationship between appropriate contour lines configuration and data compressibility from the results of data compression obtained by using the divisional quantum.
Also, the author describes the success in verifying the effectiveness of this method by calculating the size and volume of a certain area on the testing site.
