The joint publication by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the United Nations (UN) titled “Mapping for a Sustainable World” (2020) was an attempt to join forces in how our geospatial and cartographic community could possibly contribute as a community in responding to the global challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As a contributing editor, this joint execution of publication and sharing its result as an open access publication is meeting the SDG 17 whose goals is to “strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development”.
This paper will focus in elaborating on the overview and challenges of SDG17 from a geospatial and cartographic viewpoint as in reality, in publishing the MSW, it was one goal that it was not mapped in the publication. However, the author has been showcasing the SDG17 through thematic maps since 2021 and would like to reflect and propose on what does partnership means in moving the envelope by geospatial and cartographic communities in the future.
