Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has expanded map use from representation of known spatial patterns to exploration and visualization of unknown ones. As a result, a wide range of tools for the exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) have been developed. These tools include techniques of brushing, parallel coordinate plot, and conditioned choropleth map that facilitate multifaceted analysis of the multivariate geospatial data. The present study demonstrated the usefulness of these tools for ESDA by applying GeoViz toolkit developed by GeoVISTA center at the Pennsylvania State University to the analysis of demographic data of Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
