This study aimed to develop a maintenance management database for medical equipment based on hospital hospitalization trends, coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), and the availability of medical equipment and to demonstrate the central management data operation required by clinical engineers.
The study focused on infusion pumps that could be rented from central management. This single-center, retrospective, descriptive study was conducted over 12 months between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
The correlation coefficient between the number of operating infusion pumps and the number of hospital stays per week was 0.93. Therefore, a downward trend was observed in the correlation coefficient between the beginning of the week (Monday) and the weekend (Sunday) (P=0.007). In contrast, analysis of the number of infusion pumps in operation by week and severe COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization in Chiba Prefecture showed a correlation coefficient of 0.51 (P = 0.24).
There was a positive correlation between the number of infusion pumps and the number of hospital stays per week. However, the number of operating infusion pumps did not correlate with the number of hospital stays per month and the operating status of COVID-19.
