Under a microscope, materials are characterized by the three-dimensional (3D) microstructure formed by constituent elements such as pores, voids and cracks, and their mechanical and hydrological properties are deeply related to these microstructural aspects. In order to discuss the mechanics of such geomaterials on a microstructure-basis, details of the 3D microstructure are needed. X-ray CT is a powerful tool to identify the microstructure by a non-destructive method, however, it is difficult to evaluate the microstructure using a reconstructed 3D image. We successfully evaluated 3D microstructural anisotropy for porous and fiber materials using a multi directional scanning line method based on an easy image analysis, and its result was visualized by stereo-net projection.
